Yeah that’s my point. The idea of playing against the chickens and whatever the hell Hufflepuffs think they are is always annoying. I still think all of our losses were rigged. I don’t like losing to Slytherin but I can handle it because we’re evenly matched. Okay I do remember that one. I’m not sure what sort of name there is for what Lily and I are dancing. We’re just winging it but that usually works for us anyway. Nothing is safe, Emma. You know that. It never will be as long as he’s still out there. you know my theory on making a choice.

As safe as it can be is what I prefer. And I know your theory and the jury is still frustrated on the issue. I know what I don’t want—I don’t want the mark. Beyond that, I don’t know. I can’t fight, not like you or your friends, and I don’t want to fight. My skills are healing spells and potions—it doesn’t do me much good when my housemates want to challenge what side I’m on. So I’d prefer to be as neutral as possible and survive.

Well I’m skilled at Quidditch and we finally fucking won, and you all won too. We both know that the real competition in this place should always be Gryffindor vs Slytherin anyway. The rest of them can just watch us fight to the death. Vietnamese what? Well I’m sure you’ll find somewhere to go for the holidays. I’m not 100% where I’m winding up either.

Our matches are certainly far more entertaining to watch than the birds and rodents against each other. We’re the only house teams that truly matter. Potter, remember your training—the Viennese Waltz, a style of ballroom dance and my favourite. We’ll all find some place for the holidays; the question is will it be safe.

“It is a good match, and we won it so that makes it better.” Emma smiles. “My father raised me to play since he didn’t have the boy he wanted.” Watching hims turn around Emma laughs. “You should be ready. Practice makes perfect.” She waves to the door that appeared in the wall beside them. “We just go inside and practice work out the dance until we’re perfect.”

You are too. I can ballroom dance and all that because of pureblood functions but my hips don’t twist from side to side. They’re meant to do other things. Yeah winter break will be good to get away from this place for a while.

If I’m weird, then so are you. And I’m well aware of what your hips can do, Potter—you know, being a Quidditch player and all. *grins* But you have to twist to get the marks so you might as well suck it up. I’m sure I’ll enjoy watching you and Evans perform that number. Kai and I are doing a Viennese Waltz to our song. And first I need to make certain my house hasn’t been commandeered before I know where I’m going for the holidays.

Welcoming Kai’s embrace, Emma answers him. “I’m well. The match the other day left me a bit sore. But no being ill for me. Pomfrey makes certain of that—can’t have the healer in training getting sick.” She sighs and then adds, “I’ve listened to the song a few times and though of some steps but nothing complete yet. And I’m sure you can lead perfectly well.”

Potter, I am not weird. I was raised dancing so of course I look forward to putting that training into something other than a few stuffy Pureblood functions. And thanks for reminding me of what I need to sort out for winter break. You have to twist? How are you meant to do that?

I grew up in France as an only child. I have and older cousin but he and I never got on very well. My father worked for the French Ministry as a liaison between France and Russia while my mother was the epitome of the elegant French Pureblood wife. I was had a private tutor who taught me classical music, dance, as well as customary grammar, speech, and arithmancy. When I wasn’t in lessons I entertained myself with books, my toy broom, or forcing the house elves to pretend sickness so I could heal them with my imitation potions and play wand. My father insisted on how important money and connections were while my mother repeatedly told me how I needed to act like a proper Pureblood lady and told me to stay away from those of unfortunate blood.

As I got older, my mother’s rules chaffed and she and I would often end up having a row until she or I stormed off and my father scrambled to pick up the pieces between us. The arguments only got worse as we moved to Kennington and I started school here at Hogwarts.

I think Kai is too good to be true. I thankful I could have him as a partner for this assignment but I honestly wonder what this assignment will bring out in us. But Kai is unbelievably attractive and far too kind to me. I’m not used to a guy like him but perhaps it’s the sort of change of pace I need.

Emma smiles. The Viennese Waltz was Emma’s favourite ballroom dance. She’d immediately tossed out Foxtrot because it’s too quick in footwork for the song, as is the Quick Step. Though she would never admit it aloud, she wanted to know what it felt like to act in line with her wealth and status, the way she’d been expected to whens he was younger. “You have a good frame for it!” she says as she smiles, watching him playfully imitate the motions. “But I feel like I’m going to need tall heels in order to even out our heights.” She grins, looking up at him. “I just glad to get you as a partner again and do something fun like dance to a lovely song.”

I had broken things off with him then and it was one the hardest things I ever had to do. I put my family before what I really wanted. But as each day went by and it was becoming quite clear neither of my sisters would do the same for myself— and after both Sirius and Regulus both told me, in their own way, that I shouldn’t push aside what I wanted because of them. Ted and I decided to resume things, just not publicly. Bella had said that she would leave him alone as long as I stayed away. But she didn’t and I doubt anyone knew about Ted and I. I keep secrets to myself unless I have to tell someone.

Everything is just so messed up. And he’s still not well after the curse and I want to see him but don’t want to risk him getting more hurt.

Bellatrix doesn’t seem to follow any rules, not even her own. But I definitely agree with both Sirius and Regulus. I’m tired of being ruled by our house and their insane politics. I think you deserve to have whatever you want. We are ambitious and cunning. Even if the others have warped that, we can use it for ourselves and in a better way. At least I believe it’s possible.

The next time I’m helping Pomfrey in the wing I can look in on him for you, Meda. Or you can see him while I’m there and I’ll make certain no one catches sight.
